I am particularly sensitive to landscapes. They are familiar and mysterious, enigmatic and fragile at the same time. Landscapes are our visual environment, be they natural or urban, and are at the centre of my work. Art works presented here are inspired by the architectural landscape of Dubai. In this vertical city, from the panoramic windows of my living room, I observe the urban expansion. In the UAE, the landscape has undergone dramatic change over the last 30 years due to an unprecedented economic boom. Dubai in particular has become the personification of the futurists revival having an obsession with newness, building a nation from scratch. Concrete, steel, glass, have transformed the once barren land. Drawing on my architectural background, i am responding to geometry and design found in buildings and construction works. I also like reflections in windows and other reflective surfaces as it allows to move between realism and abstraction. I want to draw attention on our relationship between the build environment and our personal perception but also encourage reflection on what lies beneath the sparkling architecture and our place within this new urban century Drawing is at the base of my studio practice while exploring photographic and cinematography’s visual works to support my creativity. I work mainly with oil paint, emphasizing pictorial structures and contrast to capture the dynamic of the city.
