For its third edition, Urban Commissions invites all creatives residing in the UAE to propose and design a communal table which will be installed in the urban landscape of Dubai Design District (d3).

The communal table establishes an important functional, social and community building role for placemaking in Dubai. Therefore, the proposed design installation needs to address the basic function of furniture to gather people who seek comfort and functionality in the middle of their day, to meet, work, eat and converse.

As part of Dubai’s growing design-driven industry, the competition aims to engage with the creative community and promote the diverse local production industries of the UAE.

Entries can consist of any form of table and seating combination, traditional or otherwise. Selected by a notable judging panel, the winning design must be able to be entirely manufactured in the UAE within a grant of AED 50,000.

The winning proposal of Urban Commissions 3.0 will be unveiled at Design Days Dubai in March 2017, before moving to its new home in d3.
