About
A concept I curated for the group exhibition last May 16th, 2016 alongside
with artists HH Sheikha Wafa Hasher Al Maktoum and Mary Hechanova.
"We are all awake. How awake we are, is the important question. Life’s day to
day activities, the routine of it all is just a layer covering the rigid beauty
underneath the physicality. Our mind runs on focusing on tasks that are necessary
to survive. But living is a different thing.
Consciousness is complex and beautiful and strange all at the same time,
because it is a core waiting to be revealed. Hence, to get in touch with the
inward instead of the outward factors we face each day, it is a process of
practice rather than an end goal. Yes, we can create patterns, movements,
actions repetitively, but when mind and heart connect delivering action to
our physical extremities, we are faced with concentration – mastery of
silence, of reflection.
In the space, in the colors, lines, textures, we understand how waking up truly
is. It may be in the repetition or the randomness. But it is important to know
that the creative mind is not asleep and that it tries. There is beauty in
trying."
